Criminal Court Cases in Boone County
Boone County criminal cases are heard in the Illinois Circuit Court, the state trial court of original jurisdiction. Boone belongs to the 17th Judicial Circuit. A construction notice beginning December 22, 2025 reported a temporary Webster Street entrance, one public clerk window, and broad use of Zoom. Why re:SearchIL Is Not Boone's Clerk
The re:SearchIL interface is the named statewide court search, but Illinois Courts describes it in terms of electronic reviewing-court and attorney access. It should not be presented as a complete, open Boone County trial-court search. The local Circuit Clerk and Judici remain the authoritative route for Boone trial files.
Use the systems for their stated roles. Judici helps locate a Boone docket. Certified Boone County Dispositions

A spelling difference, date filter, sealed order, or separate companion case can also explain the gap. The clerk can identify the correct inspection or copy path but cannot release material that law makes confidential.
Criminal Case Stages in Boone County
Boone criminal files grow in sequence. An arrest or summons may come first, but prosecutors decide whether and what to charge. A complaint or information can begin the prosecution; an indictment is a felony accusation returned by a grand jury. None proves guilt. Arraignment is the stage when charges are formally addressed and a plea is taken. Pretrial entries track discovery, motions, hearings, and release issues.
A plea or trial leads to a judgment or other disposition, followed by sentencing when applicable. Appeals and post-judgment proceedings can add later entries. Read each count through its last result. “Nolle prosequi” means the prosecutor formally chose not to proceed with that charge at that time. Court supervision can avoid a judgment of conviction when successfully completed and when Illinois law permits it.
When Boone County Charges Change
The charge written at arrest is not fixed forever. The State’s Attorney can file a different count based on the evidence, amend a count, dismiss it, or proceed on another theory.
