Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Boone County Criminal History does not retain or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or contact submission may be kept long enough to review and answer it. The message remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the servers automatically receive limited technical information about the visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when available
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure aggregate traffic, including popular pages and where visits end. Analytics providers assist with that measurement. A browser can reject cookies, although blocking them may change how some site features operate.
What We Do With This Data
Collected information supports the operation of the service. It may be used for:
- Diagnosing and correcting technical problems
- Measuring which resources visitors use
- Maintaining site speed and availability
- Routing queries to the appropriate search partner
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Boone County Criminal History does not compile, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It identifies official channels in Boone County and Illinois, including the Circuit Clerk, Sheriff's Records Division, Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification, and Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report or a record about another person. This private resource is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Their privacy policies, retention periods, and sharing rules govern information submitted to those tools. This policy does not control a partner's handling of a query, so review that provider's terms before searching.
Links to Other Websites
Links lead to court portals, the Boone County Sheriff's Office, Illinois agencies, legal-aid resources, and outside tools. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to recognize activity across websites and select targeted advertisements. Their tracking does not occur on systems controlled by Boone County Criminal History.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Advertising networks serving advertisements
- Search partners processing a submitted query
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information collected here. No internet-connected service can guarantee perfect security, however, and this site cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, it will be removed after notice.
Your Data Rights
The Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, 815 ILCS 505, may provide protections in addition to those stated here. The Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140/1 et seq., governs requests made to covered public bodies, not requests to this private website. Subject to applicable law and the information actually held, a visitor may:
- Object to certain forms of processing
- Request deletion of personal data
- Seek correction of inaccurate information
- Ask for a copy of personal information held
Updates to This Policy
